Importance of celebrating Festivals in Vidhyashram International School

Celebrating festivals and events in the schools of Jodhpur has become an integral part of learning and building a strong cultural belief in a child. An important day is remembered by a child only when they understand the significance of the occasion.

Such celebrations will bring children closer to our traditions and cultural beliefs. A close bond is built between children as they understand each other’s customs. India being a diverse country, children need to know what each festival means, and it is only through these celebrations that he/she will get to know more about our country. Some festivals celebrated in the school are – Dussehra, Raksha Bandhan, Christmas, Sankranthi, Eid, etc.

Today, festivals are like ‘Sale Seasons’ and ‘Big Discount Days’. We know more of local and regional festivals today than ever before, like say, for example, Varalakshmi Puja, Akshay Tritiya, Teej, Karwa Chauth, etc. than the regular ones like Ganesh Chaturthi, Christmas, Id-Ul-Fitr, Janmashtami simply because these are bumper days in the kitty of a marketing head. But how much do we really know about our festivals and their importance? How much of it can we actually pass on to our kids?

Apart from building relationships and friendships, such celebrations will bring happiness and love among children, friends, and family. Apart from classroom activities, we also celebrate festivals and events in order to familiarise the child with our country’s culture and traditions. Children are exposed to the essence of festivals in various ways like they tap their feet on peppy songs followed by cheerful rhymes and melodious songs. Each and every performance turns out to be innovative and unique in its own way. At the end of the day, the boundless joy of celebrating the event is visible on the faces of all. The Playschool wing of our school celebrates most of the events in the presence of their parents and our honorable Principal cum Director Ma’am which illuminates the celebration.

For students, it is a great way to understand the rich heritage of India and learn about the importance of various festivals. Along with enthusiasm and fun for the activitiesqualities like sensitivitycreativity, and togetherness are also inculcated in the students. Keeping its values intact, our school wishes to offer the right kind of educational system which is based on moral ethics. The school also believes that education will allow the child to bloomblossom, and thrive, giving them the right platform where they will work towards becoming a responsible citizen.
